Journaling
We believe every life tells a story that deserves to be shared. Similarly, people of all ages find personal comfort and satisfaction in recalling and recording the many adventures, thoughts, perspectives, and other aspects of their life. Guided by the Journaling Memories workbook, users can recount the numerous aspects of their life, while neatly recording their memories and thoughts in a timeless physical journal. Working through the guide, users are led through over 300 questions to examine and recall various life memories, from small details to critical life decisions. The examination begins in the earliest years and advances through the entire course of life.
_____
Memories
Life is a collection of actions, relationships, experiences, interests and thoughts that continue well into the senior years. Unfortunately, however, as aging moves on, memories begin to fade. Thus, to stimulate thought, refresh memory, and preserve one’s mind as aging continues, the Journaling Memories process will prove to be an important element of ones later years. The process is a convenient and structured approach to assist aging users in restoring the story of their life for future generations.
_____
Health and Activity
For most seniors, maintaining good health and remaining active are significant factors in living throughout their elderly years. Evidently, any activity which simulates the mind and thinking can be a meaningful addition to one’s later years. The Journaling Memories process can be helpful in exercising the mind and therefore beneficial especially to those suffering from memory challenges. It also enables others to learn about the user’s meaningful life story.
_____
Background
While the process of chronicling and preserving a legacy of life is important to millions of people around the world, a clear process for recalling and recording such thoughts in a complete, structured way has been nonexistent. Most recently, keepsakes like shoe boxes full of letters, notes, and photos have been a scarce and haphazard means of recording meaningful memories. Tragically, many fascinating life accounts have been lost as years inevitably pass and memories fade. The Journaling Memories process is now available to fill this critical void.
_____
Development
This new concept was initially inspired by the journals of my father, who began suffering from memory loss in his declining years. During these years, his thought process and writings were stimulated by our family’s onslaught of questions and encouragement of him to “write it down.” His effort and activity to leave a journal of his past and life lessons for future generations remained constant until his passing at the age of 95. In a somewhat non-structured form, he recounted the experiences and lessons of his full nine decades of life. My father’s journals left a lasting memory for our entire family and future generations.
His life stories and messages have become an invaluable emblem of inspiration for the future. These writings offer testimony to the challenges and conditions of his time while reminding readers of the importance of maintaining a constructive and positive perspective on life. Thus, I set out, alongside my twin grandsons, to design a process that can help other families to preserve their legacy and enrich people’s senior years.
